The East Somerset Railway is on a recruitment drive; we need more volunteers to help run the Railway.
East Somerset Railway is a registered charity whose aims are to preserve and run
steam trains through the Mendips.
To do this we rely heavily on a volunteer workforce who carry out every
job on the railway from lighting up the steam engines in the early morning to
selling tickets, Guarding Trains, painting fences, weeding and serving tea in
the popular Whistlestop Restaurant.
In August, our busiest month, over 1900 man/woman hours are needed just
to run trains. That
doesn’t include all the hours of maintenance and restoration that are required
to ensure the railway continues to thrive.
are looking for anyone, young or not so young, who can give up some time to help
us out. It
can be one day a month or even a year.
There are always jobs to be done.
Some jobs require training such as Guard and Footplate Crew, which we
will provide. For
the jobs in which we provide training all we ask is a regular commitment of a
minimum of one day a month in order to keep your skills current.
